"In The Heart of the Sea" Movie Review: The Untold Back Story

During film breaks to his famous movie character, Thor, Chris Hemsworth takes on different movie projects to test his acting prowess and body structure capabilities. In the movie, "In The Heart of the Sea", he displayed a rather skinny body needed for his character as Owen Chase, the first mate of the whaleship named Essex, which was slammed to shipwreck by a whale that happened sometime in 1821.

"In The Heart of the Sea" is the 2015 drama-thriller adaptation movie from the novel "In The Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex" by Nathaniel Philbrick. The novel itself is said to be one of the accounts used on the tragedy that happened in the heart of the Atlantic Ocean. However, the shipwreck tragedy was said to be the inspiration of the famous novel by Herman Melville, entitled "Moby Dick".

The twisted movie somehow can make some confusions because people might think that the whale encountered by Owen Chase in the movie was Moby Dick but it's really not. The beginning and ending of the film will tell you that the whole point of the movie was to get the whole story how the shipwreck tragedy had happened as narrated by the last surviving crew of the Essex named Thomas Nickerson played by Tom Holland (cabin boy). The interviewer in the film at the beginning of the movie is Herman Melville, the creator and novelist of "Moby Dick" played by Ben Whishaw.

Anyway, the cinematic experience while watching the movie is simply superb, thanks to the IMAX experience during the screening that we attended. The sea adventure encounter is truly great in IMAX theaters especially the sound and visual effects, which tremendously affected us and literally held on to our seats as if we were also on the voyage that was Essex.

Overall, "In The Heart of the Sea" was a thrilling cinematic masterpiece that was given a special treatment on IMAX. Story-wise may have lack on something, but the untold back story is unforgettable. We enjoyed the movie quite well, very engaging indeed, you will forget everything about how the story was told and presented. Ron Howard did a great job on this film, I must say. I give the movie an 8 out of 10 movie experience. Watch the whole movie trailer of "In The Heart of the Sea" below. Enjoy!
