Movie Review "Fallen": Falls Short but a Promising Movie Franchise

"Fallen" is one of those young adult novels made into film adaptation in 2016 due to the demand of visual feast of movie experience by the fans of the book. When "Fallen" was only on the production stage, fans all over the world were so thrilled that their favorite novel series is being made into film, and that they will finally see what the characters would look like in the flesh and not just in their imagination.

And so, a few months ago, we saw the final work for the "Fallen" movie. The movie has this indie film in terms of production and overall look of the film. We cannot say that there was a shortage in budget because we love how the film was created, especially the visual special effects of the fighting scene of the "fallens" but somehow, the indie film feels does not work. However, because I am not so familiar about the whole story of the film, I would highly commend the use of subtitle in the film.

Directing--wise, the attack used by the director also has this indie (independent movie) experience, similar to what we have seen in the past from the different indie directors. It is not traditional, but it is not contemporary as well, somewhat somewhere in between.

Production-wise, the movie "Fallen" has a lot more things to do to create a more convincing production design. Maybe the lighting effect, maybe the props, maybe the wardrobe, who knows, but there is something lacking about the production of the film. We were actually looking for something more engaging when it comes to production, maybe they thought the story of the "Fallen" franchise is engaging enough. The production should have thought that this is a moving storybook, and everything we see should affect the viewers in one way or another. I'm pretty sure the author has all the nods in the production, but when it comes to budgetting, the young adults are really hard to  please as well.

Story-wise, "Fallen" is engaging to none readers of the book. I actually became a fan because I love how the story progresses in every scene. I was hooked the whole time watching the film because I don't want to miss even a minute detail. The cliffhanger towards the end makes it a powerful franchise series that needs more improvement in order to create a bigger fan-based.

Overall, we enjoyed watching "Fallen", the movie adaptation. It falls short on some notes, but the story has this promising feels that might become a successful franchise or sequels in the future. A 7 out of 10 movie experience for its effort to give the fans their much-awaited visual presentation.
